Wesley traces his fingers over Giles' face, at first to follow the wandering beam of moonlight that fell there. When his fingertips linger over Giles' lips and eyelids, he realizes the moonlight no longer captivates him. There are a myriad of fine, almost imperceptible, lines over Giles' face and try as he might, Wesley can't follow any one of them. He thinks, if he could find the source of the grief and joy etched in his lover's face, he could find the man Giles was and is. It's not just his past that hides Giles from Wesley. A maze of emotions, relationships and people whose paths continually criss-cross and bring the past in collision with the present keep Giles at an interminable distance from him. The light shifts and the line that Wesley traces is lost in darkness and the brush of lips over his finger. A few seconds pass and the murmuring of his name closes the distance between them enough for Wesley to find his lover's lips and see the moonlight in his eyes.
